Preparing a lobster dish at home feels just a little fancy doesn’t it? I love lobster, and what I love most is that you can buy it frozen to prepare easily at home without having to boil and crack open one from the lobster tank at the grocery store.
This dish is totally delicious, but like most lobstery things, it’s a little on the pricy side. My frozen lobster was $20 (but buy-one-get-one — woo!) and I also happened to be lucky enough to find Kohlrabi linguini, all prepared for me in the produce aisle. So for me, this recipe was incredibly easy.
Do I think it’s still worth the effort if you have to spiralize a kohlrabi and pluck the meat out of a lobster yourself? I mean, sure, if you want to, but make sure you’re doubling the recipe and feeding the whole family, because it’s THAT good.
But let’s talk about the dish itself — pure garlicky goodness. Garlic is cooked three ways into this dish, a trick I learned from Kenji Lopez-Alt in my favorite cookbook, The Food Lab. If you’re a cooking nerd, you’ll love it, it’s a masterpiece of all the best ways to cook all the things.
Getting back to that garlic — we are simmering smashed garlic in oil until crispy, then discarding it (or saving it for later like I do, yum) then sizzling a little sliced garlic, and finally a quick flash in the pan with grated garlic. Holy moly, pure garlic heaven. Then, you’re just cooking the noodles in chicken broth until it absorbs, and tossing the rest together fairly quickly after that. You can’t go wrong with this dish.
Kohlrabi is one of the more neutral veggie noodles, so it goes great in this dish and lets the lobster and garlic take center stage. I hope you enjoy it!

- Yield: 2 Servings
- Category: Dinner
Ingredients
- 7oz fully-cooked Maine lobster chunks (defrosted if frozen – I used Cozy Harbor)
- 1/2 cup ghee
- 2 garlic cloves smashed
- 2 garlic cloves sliced
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 1/4 cup chicken broth
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- Salt and fresh pepper
- 5 cups spiraled kohlrabi (or 10 oz kohlrabi linguini – Mann’s brand)
- 1/4 cup FRESH Parmesan reggiano
- 1/4 cup freshly chopped basil
Instructions
1. Dry and then season your lobster chunks with a pinch or two of salt in a bowl, then set aside.
2. In a medium skillet, add ghee and smashed garlic cloves, then bring to a medium heat and cook for about 5 minutes until browned. Discard, then cook the sliced garlic for about 45 seconds, and then the minced garlic for about 20 seconds, adding red pepper flakes at the same time.
3. Increase heat to medium-high and add lemon juice, chicken broth, a generous few pinches of salt and pepper, and bring back to a simmer. Add kohlrabi noodles and cook for about 5-10 minutes, simmering until the broth reduces and you’re back to an oil base.
4. Add lobster and toss until lobster is hot and cooked through (about 2 more minutes). Then toss with salt and a generous dose freshly cracked pepper, to taste.
5. Garnish or toss with fresh chopped basil and fresh Parmesan reggiano cheese, and enjoy right away!
